About Chelsea Youth Football

The Chelsea Youth Football (CYF) mission is to instill in our youth the challenge of competition, the joy of victory, the importance of commitment, and the spirit of community. It is our goal to develop strong fundamentals, discipline, good character both on and off the field, and respect for team and community. Instilling the importance of achievement among our young athletes, CYF will strive to better prepare players for the competitive realities of middle school and high school football.

Chelsea will offer the following playing options for 2020:

Flag Football

Flag teams will be divided by grade as follows:

K/1, 2nd/3rd, 4th/5th, and 6th.  Divisions with multiple teams will play each other as well as teams from other communities.  Based on number of teams, some flag games will be played on Saturdays.  Note:

Tackle Football

Tackle will be offered for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.  Chelsea is part of the Jefferson Shelby Youth Football Leage (JSYFL). JSYFL rules require for minimum play time in games for every age group!
New to the JSYFL league is a split amongst divisions. Chelsea is now aligned in a division with other 6A/5A schools such as Pelham, Helena, Briarwood, and Homewood. If enough teams are filled from each of these leagues, a 6A championship game occurs.  Games are played on weeknights (other than one jamboree game played on a Saturday before the season starts.  Teams typically practice 2x per week and play 1 game each week other than bye weeks. Home games are played at Chelsea Middle School and/or Chelsea High School.
Safety and teaching the correct techniques are of utmost priority for our tackle football program.  We follow USA Football’s guidelines and instructions on how to properly coach and teach the game. For the past 4 years we have taught the “heads-up” tackle technique to safely remove the head from the game at an early age to reduce head injuries.  Our coaches are certified and must pass an extensive course in order to be credentialed.
We encourage you to review links tab to research how we are proactively teaching the game of football to our youth.
